Virat Kohli breaks Don Bradman’s record
Virat Kohli has scored the 30th century of his Test career. Virat played an unbeaten inning of 100 runs in the second innings of the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Kohli has overtaken Australia’s great batsman Don Brandman (29 centuries) in terms of most Test centuries.
The century came off 143 deliveries and saw India declare on 487/6 and set a mammoth target of 534 for Australia. With this knock, Kohli completed his 30th ton in Test cricket, breaking the record of legendary Australia cricketer Sir Don Bradman who scored 29 Test centuries in his illustrious career.
Kohli has an enviable record on Australian soil, scoring 1352 runs in 13 matches across four trips Down Under. He led the team to a series win in 2018-19 and was captain for the first Test in the successful 2020-21 tour before returning back for personal reasons.
The 36-year-old’s run tally in Australia is second only to Sachin Tendulkar’s 1809 runs in 20 matches. The Delhi batter is already level with the Little Master on most centuries in Australia by an Indian batter.
Coming in at number 4, Kohli played some magnificent shots and looked composed through his innings. The spectacular knock included 8 boundaries and 2 sixes.
This is Kohli’s ninth Test century against the Baggy Greens and also his ninth ton in the Border-Gavaskar series. The 36-year-old is the Indian batter with the second-most centuries against Australia in Tests only behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 11 tons against the opposition.
