Star bowler Mahammed Sham made a strong return to cricket during the Ranji Trophy 2024, will also travel with Rohit to Australia. Shami is all set to be included in the squad for the series but will likely only be considered for the playing XI after the first match in Perth.
The right-arm seamer began bowling in the nets following the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru; after the second game ended in Pune, he resumed training, bowling to India batter Shubman Gill at full throttle.
Shami remains India’s top bowler across formats, with Test being his standout one. In 64 matches played thus far, Shami has picked 229 wickets, averaging close to 28.
Shami, who has been out of competitive action since India’s ODI World cup final in Ahmedabad last November, leads the Bengal Ranji team to 11 run victory over Madhya Pradesh.

Rohit Sharma, who recently welcomed a baby boy, will likely join the team in the opening match in Perth.
